In just a few short weeks, the first CrossFit Open workout will be announced. The Open season runs for 5 weeks, from February 23 through March 27. Every Thursday night, the workout is announced live, as we all watch with anticipation. If this is your first year, you may be saying to yourself “I’m not an elite athlete. Why should I sign up?” Short answer: Because all the cool kids are doing it! But seriously, you don’t have to be an elite athlete to compete in the Open. Participating in this worldwide event is your chance to be a part of a CrossFit competition that includes people of all ages and fitness levels, from all around the globe. If you regularly scale workouts, good news…there is a scaled division. Last year we had 88 athletes on the roster and we expect nothing less this year.
We will do the open workouts on Saturdays, with make-ups on Sundays. We are changing it up this year. Instead of Friday Night Lights, immediately following the announcement on Thursday nights, six Maxability athletes will take on the WOD just minutes after finding out what it is. All are welcome to come watch the announcement at 8:00pm and stick around to cheer on our athletes (the guinea pigs.) There will be no 7:30pm class on Thursdays during Open season. Evening classes will be at 4:30, 5:30 & 6:45pm. (Foundations also at 6:45pm) We will also add a WOD on Sunday at 12:00pm.
The Open motivates you to leave your comfort zone and accomplish things you may have never tried otherwise. It creates a fun, exciting atmosphere at the gym and a bond within our community, and it’s sure to bring out the be(a)st in you! If you still have questions about the Open, please ask a coach. If you’re hesitant about signing up, talk to your fellow CrossFitters who can attest to the awesomeness. From newbies to veterans to everyone in between…this is our season. What are you waiting for? Register today! Be sure to select Maxability Sports and CrossFit as your affiliate.
